Personal statement (draft 1)

The route down film cinematography and photography began through the ambition I held for the medium, the compelling idea of capturing fragments of the world or specific scenes in contribution to a storyline is a process I thoroughly enjoy and take pride in doing, and would further like to continue both to study and technically apply. The process of using a camera specifically and photographing something only I visualise has always been an idea at the back of my mind when photographing, and adds the depth and meaning to my photographs, telling stories in a different and impactful manner.

'the art of dreaming,' a 52 paged, photographic book is a main achievement of mine, highlighting issues such as inequality and climate change through the medium of poetry with a collection of photographs symbolising issues and further themes, such as heartbreak. The personal photography holds deeper messages and meanings, and has given me the joy of learning more about layout and design. Skills within Adobe software Photoshop have developed, though I still feel I have more to learn both in this software and others such as InDesign. Other academic achievements include an Arts Award, Silver Level 2 in film. I feel that the award provided me with soft skills from teamwork and leadership to presentation, alongside the beginning of my technical film knowledge. Alongside teamwork, the process of sharing common interests with peers under my course has been insightful, learning skills from them and teaching skills I am aware of, such as knowledge in Adobe Premiere Pro.

The keen interest I have for this career has allowed me to partake in life changing experiences such as the BFI Film Academy and Get Into the Media with the BBC, including a live interview on BBC London news. Further short courses such as Stories on Screen with the University of Arts London and workshops with advertisers of Nike - Wieden and Kennedy have provided me with technical abilities across a large spread of media and the different industries that are within, along with meeting many insightful figures. This being career options, further hobbies outside of this include extroverted and nature related activities, this being evident within my landscape photography. Such activities including travelling have been demonstrated through summer programmes, such as National citizenship service (NCS) along with PGL, and further 'bucket list' completions such as submarine diving and touring the east coast of European country, Spain. A link between travelling and photography is a life goal of mine, as my photography is travel/ landscape based.

Overall, the desire I hold to progress in the medium involving the use of cameras and the human eye is consistent, I feel such course would provide me with the knowledge required to pursue and succeed within photography. My portfolio of work allowing experiences such as The wonder with light project involving 450+ children and trustworthy persona allowing further experiences such as filming for Sixth Form college Association and London's Borough of Culture premiere makes me a suitable candidate, with hope to further learn and benefit others around me.
